Students' Rights

  • Equal access to courses, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities offered at HU
  • Reasonable and appropriate accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or services determined on a case-by-case basis
  • Appropriate confidentiality of all information regarding a disability and the choice to whom a disability is disclosed except as required or permitted by law
  • Information in a reasonably accessible format




Students' Responsibilities

  • Meet qualifications and essential standards as determined by HU for courses, programs, jobs, services, and facilities
  • Identify as a person with a disability to Accessibility Services by emailing ADA@HarrisburgU.edu in a timely manner when seeking accommodations
  • Provide documentation and supplemental information when requested by Accessibility Services to facilitate the accommodation process
  • Follow specific procedures for obtaining reasonable and appropriate accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or services
  • Communicate requests for accommodations to instructors and other staff by providing  accommodation letters written by Accessibility Services as early in the semester as possible
  • Renew your accommodations each academic year
  • Communicate with Accessibility Services if you feel adjustments to your accommodations are necessary




Harrisburg University Rights

  • Maintain essential standards for courses, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities
  • Request documentation and other information that confirms disability status and supports the need for reasonable and appropriate accommodations when necessary
  • Deny a request for reasonable and appropriate accommodations if the the information and documentation does not support the need for the requested service, or is not provided in a timely manner
  • Select among equally effective accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or services as judged appropriately by Accessibility Services after interactively engaging with the student
  • Deny a request for an unreasonable or inappropriate accommodation that poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others, imposed a fundamental alteration to a course or program, or poses an undue burden on HU




Harrisburg University Responsibilities

  • Ensure that courses, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities, when viewed in their entirety, are offered in the most integrated and appropriate settings
  • Provide information regarding policies and procedures to students with disabilities in accessible formats upon request
  • Evaluate students based on their abilities and not their disabilities
  • Provide or arrange reasonable and appropriate accommodations upon request from the student
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of records and communication regarding students with disabilities, except where permitted or required by law
  • Inform students when requested accommodations are not reasonable, appropriate, or beyond HU's ability to provide
